Awesome, I'm coming in town for the marathon. Might be worth adding a day on the front end for this depending on the deets

I feel like UM would probably do 1 night at the brawl room then hit Madison. Or vice versa. Play Mad town then back to Chicago. Thoughts?

I would be interested in coming out for a UM/Spafford weekend.  Pretty close to Phish Halloween though and I'm strongly considering that.

My current predicament. Can't do both the Big Weekend UM shows and do Phish at Allstate as well. Decisions...

Following the model of a city takeover, the Big Weekend offers fans the opportunity to attend one show, or several shows, throughout the weekend at the cityís finest live music venues.

**books shows at the Concord, Aragon, and Riv**

Why is this even an event? There's at least as much variety in the Chicago music scene every weekend. Is that the new thing, schedule a few concerts of similar bands on the same weekend and call it an event?

Vast majority of crowd missed the entire first set waiting to get in. We showed up 40 mins before show started and didnt get in until 5 mins before set 2 started and the venue was still only about half full. The beer lines were also a 30-40 minute wait minimum. It was a total joke. Easily one of the worst concert experiences of my life.

I was at '16 and I don't think it was bad.  The worst part of the run was how horribly crowded the NYE show was.  Our crew got in super early so we didn't deal with that ridiculous line, but that shit looked like a nightmare.  The Aragon overall is a shithole though.  It's up there with the Denver Fillmore as worst venues in the country (of those I've been to of course).

Aragon was also very unfriendly towards people partying, for whatever that's worth. People were getting dragged into siderooms and shaken down for drugs

People complain about a lack of Chicago shows AND the fact that they keep choosing the worst venue when they do play it. Justifiably. There are def great venues, they just won't play them, anymore.

No one complains when UM plays Northerly Island; and everyone speaks favorably about them playing a show at the Auditorium theater or the Chicago theater again.

The venues chosen for this event leave a lot to be desired from a show-going experience. People get a lot more value for what this will end up costing elsewhere.

Gladly would, I'd like to think the majority of their fan base are now 25+ and could swing 1 night of a $60 ticket for a beautiful venue. Always makes me laugh that UM played both places in 06 and 08 and 10 years later, playing the same venue they did in '05.

That said, the promoters putting this together do not book those venues so it's no surprise.

Fact is, UM is by far the biggest draw for this event in this city, so they must have gotten a very good deal from the promoter.  Can't blame them.  That said, UM needs to get their shit together and play 2 nights at the Chicago Theater.  We have been waiting for that for 12 goddamn years now.

I'll be at the Aragon show for sure, I live less than a mile from it, so kind of hard not to go.  Place can suck, but if you do it right, it's tolerable. But early October is a great time in Chicago, so it should set up for a good night.

With this whole Big Weekend thing, it'd have been more fun if there were multiple shows throughout the day where you could bounce around all day/night, like as if you were actually at a festival but in the city and be at 4+ venues in one day for multiple bands.  This just looks like any other weekend full of shows.

I might fly out for this just for the Aragon and see my brother. Make a quick weekend out of it. I did it for Northerly last year and had a blast. I've only been to the aragon twice for 12/30 and 12/31/07 and had a blast.

Why is this even an event? There's at least as much variety in the Chicago music scene every weekend. Is that the new thing, schedule a few concerts of similar bands on the same weekend and call it an event?

Because jambands have to make events out of fucking everything.

(Destination)Events are the only thing in the industry that they can count on to make money; hence more events. They gotta make a living, and they know which products make them the best margins.

Just suck it up and pay for VIP if you hate the venue so much. Thatís my game plan, it also helps bring a huge Spaffnerd.  That UM + Spafford VIP deal is pretty reasonable in my opinion.

Kind of like Brooklyn Comes Alive. Agreed.

I'll be there since I'll be in town, but yeah this is weak.

Silver Wrapper will never be booking Aud or the Chicago by the way...

Is this a Silver Wrapper event? Itís not a Jam event? I know very little about the whole promoter side of things, but thought that UM used Jam?

Regardless, any insight on why UM canít/wonít play the Chi Theatre? Cheese used to play the Aragon when in town but just recently switched to the CT. Why couldnít UM?

It appears as though Silver Wrapper,  Jam, and Live Nation have partnered on this.

Seems like a good deal, I'm prob in on this too. The poster is something I'd be paying for and I have to think the UM tickets will be close to $60 on their own. And Stafford another $25 or so. That's about $80 for the VIP stuff, not a bad deal

The sound is meh, security can be stiff. And apparently last they played, staff let the line in get way too long.  Which is an issue.  But with all that said, we had a great time there in 06 and 07.  I donít mind the place, but havenít been since 09. 12/30/06 is a top um show of all time.  I think the event over all is just meh.  Other headliners should be openers for um playing numerous nights.  I also think itís cool um still represents the jam scene, same w silver wrapper, but there more aggressive avenues to explore.

Anyway, I think itís cool um is headlining a fun event in Chicago.  Could be great if um delivers.

I'd imagine you'd have a decent amount of time. IIRC 12/30 didn't sell out on the New Year's run in 2016. A one off show probably won't have the same draw as a 3 night run either, even with the draw from the other Big Weekend acts.

Aragon is listed as 5,000 capacity, I always thought it was like 3,500 which is what Chicago theater is. Realistically it should be like 4,000 cause when that place is sold out there is no worse venue. It's somewhat tolerable when it's not butts to nuts.

I wish the lines were only 20 minutes for a beer. It was over 30 minutes at one point on 12/30/16. It was enough that I didn't buy another beer the rest of the night or at all on 12/31. Their loss I guess.

When I finally got to the front of that line, I figured I'd save my group the trouble of waiting in that line so I bought 4 beers and 2 waters. They wouldn't give me caps to the waters (even though they gave caps to everybody else that night it seemed) so I had to wait until somebody I knew walked by to be able to get it all back to our spot.

Yeah, as a band, you don't go back to a venue two years after you basically said never again unless there's a fatter paycheck in the equation. It's just really frustrating/disheartening to see this happening, but they don't really care just cuz we're "a bunch of haters".

After all of the problems the Aragon has caused fans, and given how shitty of a venue it is (it's the fucking worst - lets not all pretend like we don't know the reasons...it fails in every fucking category), UM is asking fans to pay $55+ dollars to attend? And play in a literally dangerous venue? For what, a little more money?

Fuck that. I said I'd never return to the Aragon after NYE in 2016, and I'm standing by my word. Absolutely unacceptable

Yeah, as a band, you don't go back to a venue two years after you basically said never again unless there's a fatter paycheck in the equation. It's just really frustrating/disheartening to see this happening, but they don't really care just cuz we're "a bunch of haters".

Fuck everything that's happening with The Shit Weekend

When did UM say that they would "never again" play the Aragon?

I'll admit that I don't have any hard sources, but the band knows how awful the 2016 nye fiasco was and it was generally hinted at by talking to band members that they were pretty much just as unhappy with the venue as we were.

i definitely am. if you dont like something, take a stand. thats how things get changed. by complying we are saying this is ok and nothing will change.

Even if we all boycotted they will still sell it out and the crowd will still eat up the 10 total minutes of improv. VfJ will hail it as a huge success. Repeat next year for more money.

yes, this would have to extend far beyond the bort. i have seen/heard sooo many fans of varying degrees of fandom complain about the venue. and they complained about the announcement. but theyre def going. why? WHY

Why do they not try to lockdown UIC Pavillion? I know it might be a little big for their britches, but they cut the wings center down and it seems to work there. Plus, along with most of you, I don't mind spending a little bit of cash to see them but not $60 for the Aragon. That really is a joke.

Why is this being billed as such an "event"? There are a ton of shows on any given weekend in Chicago and it looks like outside of VIP only single show tickets are available? This is just a bunch of bands in town at once, not even remotely some kind of organized event.

Can I ask how it is a "scam"? It is pretty clear that everyone understands what is going on with these shows. "Event" may be an odd choice, but the promoter has decided to book all of these similar bands in a consecutive series of dates; for them, they are marketing it as an event. I don't know where the "scam" part is.

I attended both UM shows there in 2016, War on Drugs and LCD Soundsystem that were both sold out, and the first night of Ween all in 2017. I had no real issues at all, the sound was great for every band, the lines weren't that bad (especially if you know which bars to go to). The only real issue is getting out of there which only takes about 10 min or so if you don't get ahead of the crowd.

Am I doing something better than all you people who keep bitching? Or is it just the UM crowd you can't stand? Idk but I for one am looking forward to this show just like every UM show

He mentioned something about attendance with regards to the Chi theater vs the aragon. Something like Chi Theater is 3500 vs 5000 at the aragon and it "makes more sense to play at the aragon since UM just played for 6000 people at Northerly in the fall." Then later recognizing there isn't a "good venue" for UM to play at at this moment in time.

Obviously I'm paraphrasing but that's the gist of it via Joel.

Having a line so long that 1/4 (or more) of the audience misses the entire first set of NYE is enough to justify any bitching going on, imo. The 30-minute drink lines is another reason. The overcrowded flat floor with no sight lines is another less severe reason.

That said, I went to both Ween shows in 2017 and had a way better experience. Snuck in my booze and got in early enough to secure a good balcony spot. Thatís what I plan on doing for um too.

Whatís so dumb about that is that a couple years ago the excuse was it would cost $50+ per ticket, which they thought was too much money for the attendee (said the same thing about St. Patís Park in SBC) and they wouldnít get a good turnout. Now, theyíre saying they are too big for it.

Perhaps the CT doesnít want them. Maybe there is some beef between the band and venue.

Obviously it would have been nice for the band to recognize the half empty venue when they started set 1, but I'm sure they made the same assumption I did, which is people sat around boozing in the bars nearby for too long and all got stuck in line

The Explore Asheville arena holds 7,200, and they are able to move the stage up to limit the capacity to like 1/2 to 3/4 that amount.  UIC holds 9,500.

If you want to see live music in this day and age then you have to commit to spending half the night waiting in line to get in

Atleast I'm not in a line wrapped around the Aragon. Not a fanboi at all just can't stand the incessant bitching by the "fans" about the venue. Any other band the fans would be happy to be seeing their favorite band in Chicago. Save your $60 and get a flight somewhere else to see them. The complaining is really enough at this point.

I hear ya. It's always difficult when random people you don't know choose not to travel to attend a concert. Here are a few suggestions to help manage your anger:

1. Don't read this thread
2. Take deep breaths, drink water, exercise
3. Attend the show and make an effort to have a good time even if there aren't as many random borters in attendance

Yeah, how dare somebody expect it to be reasonable that they can show up to the venue 15 minutes before the first set starts and not have to miss half the show. Those people sound like real assholes. I'm a loser because im choosing not to pile on one of my favorite bands with negative commentary that's been said countless times? There comes a time you accept the fact they're going to play the Aragon (like many many good bands have and still do) and you either put your big girl pants on or shut the fuck up. I'm usually not this agressive but this thread is 8 pages of bullshit. See you at the Aragon

The Aragon is a shitty venue. I don't fault the band for continuing to play there but people have a right to bitch about it too, especially after 2016. I was lucky enough to have gotten in early but that video is fucked. It's not like the venue didnt know we were coming. To defend the venue or blame fans for not anticipating that situation is absurd, WaC.

Was anyone at Sandppint 2016? Got to the venue 45 before showtime and missed the first 3 songs. That place wasnt even very big.

Anyone at Omega Moos 2010 at the metro??

Fair enough, but it's the same people with the same complaints. I just don't understand. I've never had those issues. At a certain point it's on the fan to get in early and know that a specific venue might have alot of traffic in/out, lots of security or a long line. I'm not going to blame i90 for being backed up on a Friday night. That's how it is. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. So many people have dealt with it with no complaining. I guess this is the place people come to bitch (although in fairness the bort has been that way for years).

I just feel like if it's a requirement to get there before doors (nearly 2 hours before showtime) then it's not a good venue choice. All I'm saying. Sorry I'm not a hardcore enough fan to purposefully subject myself to that when I have the free will to prioritize other shows. And it's just not the lines to get in, it's the beer lines, the cluster fuck of it being ballroom style (no aisles or levels or places to sit), the shitty sound, the complete lack of tolerance towards partying. You can interpret it as bitching, but I'm just stating facts about my experience there.

IMO your posts are the whinest and heaviest in complaint content in the whole thread. So many people have dealt with reading this thread without no complaining. I guess this is indeed the place people come to bitch though.

Idk anything about the Aragon but I've never been to a venue before doors and usually don't go in anywhere near when doors open and have rarely, if ever, missed any part of a show. If you know the venue is gonna be slow and shitty yea you should probably plan around that fact, but that doesn't mean you should just accept bad venue management or they shouldn't be held to a higher standard. Plenty of places are able to move through lines efficiently to get people into the show without an issue.

theres a difference between knowing you need to show up 15-30 minutes early and needing to show up 2.5-3 hours early. Not to mention that the venue continues to suck once you get inside, theres a reason no one wants to spend an additional second there if they dont have to

Dude. If Iím at a show 15-20 min after the doors open, I donít think it should cause me to miss any of the headlining band. And itís a pattern for this place. Iíve missed several sets of SCI because of waiting in line for up to 90 minutes.

Iím happy that some people didnít miss the show. But at literally every other venue in the country, I can show up 30 minutes after doors open and make it in before the headliner.

Also the whole ďplan betterĒ is such a terrible cop out. There were 2k-3k people that missed large portions of the first set because of this line. What happens if all 5,000 people get the memo that the Aragon fucking sucks and you have to show up early? Then thereís 5,000 people waiting in line before the doors open... and the same exact thing will happen.

There is a systematic problem with the Aragon. Sure... you can show up 60-90 min early and it likely wonít hinder your experience. And if youíre satisfied with that because your experience wasnít affected, then fuck you too. But if everyone does that? What happens then? Are you going to just show up 2 hours early?

....

Regardless, this problem is likely to be fixed. Iím sure the band wasnít happy playing S1 for a 1/4 filled room for a ďsold outĒ NYE show.

Hey, I agree that the Aragon and their security were awful that night!  And it doesn't help that there was no opener for that show.  But how is "plan better" a cop out?  If you have been to the Aragon and still decide to show up to a sold out show there 15 mins early, then I am sorry that you rolled the dice and lost.

If 5000 people show up 15-30 mins before showtime then nobody should be surprised that some of them aren't going to catch the beginning of the show.

If 5000 people show up 15-30 mins before showtime then nobody should be surprised that some of them aren't going to catch the beginning of the show.

iamkickinit is hypothesizing about the scenario where all 5000 people "plan better" by showing up before doors and forming a line. If that were to happen, then they could probably get most of the people in before UM comes on, but that would still suck and the next thing would be "if you don't already know that you have to get in line 2 hours before doors to get a good spot in the front of the line, then sucks for you." At some point it should stop being the responsibility of the fan to dedicate extra time to compensate for the complete sack of shit that is the Aragon.

Fine but that scenario you are talking about seems highly unlikely given the nature of the typical fan in the "scene." My guess is that if you continue to show up 45-60 mins before The Boys hit the stage you will be OK, based on my experience.

And I still fucking hate the Aragon and I'm not sure why I am still defending that place...

I think thatís my point (and many othersí). I showed up 45 min early of the ticket start-time (so really I showed up an hour before the band started) and missed the first third of S1. Thatís completely unacceptable. And while itís probably not the greatest idea to show up 15 minutes before the show, missing the entire S1 is not an acceptable consequence of that poor choice.

Iíve showed up to plenty of sold-out shows 20 minutes before the start-time, and have been able to get in, grab a beer, and not miss a note. I really donít understand why this is so complicated for the venue to figure out.

And to echo what someone else said earlier in this thread... heaven forbid thereís a fire or worse at this venue. Itíd be an absolute nightmare. 5 thousand people trying to scurry down those flights of stairs out the long hallway leading to six doors... Ugh. Scary thought.

I have so much hatred for this room. Itís the fucking worst. And while I admittedly have a history of being over-dramatic about some things related to UM, Iím not being dramatic at all about this hell-hole.

Iíll stop now. I hope everyone has a blast.

This is bullshit. Sure, people who roll up late shouldn't expect to get in on time, but if a venue sells 5000 tickets, opens the doors at 6 for a headliner that goes on at 7:30, they sure as hell better have a way to get all 5000 people in the venue by the time the headliner goes on and it shouldn't require the fans to get there before doors. That is the product they are selling.

But dude, that is exactly what didn't happen and is exactly what people are bitching about

Why not do this in the Summer, and play at an outdoor venue?  I'm sure the attendance would still be pretty high.

Lol these fucking people. Grow the fuck up. "I can't be bothered to sit through an opener or get in line before doors". You sound like assholes. People have been doing this shit for decades. What you think you're special? Stay the fuck home

Yeah, how dare somebody expect it to be reasonable that they can show up to the venue 15 minutes before the first set starts and not have to miss half the show. Those people sound like real assholes. If you want to see live music in this day and age then you have to commit to spending half the night waiting in line to get in

As for your suggestion to "stay the fuck home," that actually seems to be the advice that a lot of folks are following (myself included). I'm getting too old and important to want to spend 2 hours on a weekend night having the experience of entering a show in slow motion

LMFAO @ old and important. It has never taken 2 hours for me to get into a venue ever. It's hilarious this happened to you guys. Try to be better at life.

And @AlextheDicktater- no kidding I'm the only one on this side. UM Fanboys are the whiniest of the bunch. Stay home crybabies

I want to voice my opinion on these fucking lame posts/memes bashing the Aragon, staff and their organization. Where is the ARAGON LOVE?You think you are being funny but can you take your bullying somewhere else like The Untz Report? The venue and staff and organization have given their lives to US, and rock and roll and its impressive what they are doing to make us happy. Pissed off about the long lines? Take that shit somewhere else and don't stand in them. Plenty of us are happy we have this option. We are going to be pissed when they stop it. We know venue staff members read this. Have some heart. Aragon family is some of the kindest people on the planet and going off on the organization is LAME AF. Be kind to people! You have no idea where someone's head is at when you go off on specific venues. It's lame to call venues out and make memes with their name, can you take it somewhere else...

I just don't understand. I've never had those issues. At a certain point it's on the fan bring an umbrella and know that a specific city might have alot of rain, wind or just cold weather. I'm not going to blame Florida for being hot on a summer day. That's how it is. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. So many people have dealt with Chicago weather with no complaining. I guess this is the place people come to bitch (although in fairness the bort has been that way for years).
Title: Re: The Big Weekend: Chicago 10/4-6
Post by: UncleDutchman on June 25, 2018, 04:57:12 PM
is that even bitching? what type of person wants to get rained on while they either commute between venues or wait outside of one? what an asshole I am for hoping that it's sunny outside on the day of the event.

We just had a downpour while the Moos were in town, you dont think theres a direct correlation between those shows being undersold and the weather killing walk up/day of sales? Pardon my recency bias, but I know that it was inhibitor for people on the fence. What a far out concept that the same principles might apply in a few months when UM comes to town.

Coming from an ex rail rider, the sound in the front is situational. Some venues they bring in some small wedge speakers that are aimed into the crowd and you can actually have amazing sound. I was rail for Kzoo 2013 and that was one of the best sounding UM shows I've attended FWIW. You do potentially sacrifice an equal balance between the instruments though, especially if you are on Jake side. His amp drowns out almost everything if you're too close to it. I'm over it now but I have no regrets seeing a fair amount of shows up close. UMbowl IV at Park West I legitimately felt like I was inside the show, that was a pretty mind blowing experience for my 18 year old self.

Halloween 2013 was when I learned the magic of the balcony though and I've been a balcony bitch ever since. I think I'm in the minority within the jam scene but at this point I'd prefer ticketed shows with exact seats. It is super convenient for winter shows having a spot for your coat, and to be able to have your whole crew leave with no risk of someone conquering your space.

Honestly I'm totally with you on the balcony seats. I LOVE seated shows for winter tour (for the same reasons you stated above), but summer tour is all about that GA. I like to run freely when its nice outside.

To be honest, no one's giving him that hard of a time, they/we just said we don't care to ride the rail. He somehow took that as "people who ride the rail are dumb."

I saw over 40 shows 100% sober...no booze , no pot, no nothing.  Of those shows not a single one was less than a three hour drive from where I lived.  I spent hundreds of hours and travelled thousands of miles...100% sober.

The lights were a huge part of why I went to the show, and i think wafuls scaling up over those years played a huge role in getting them to where they are now.

So I disagree with your assumption that anyone who goes to shows for the lights is a drugged out loser.

I know you're probably just trolling to piss people off  and don't actually mean most of the shit you post.  But I think waful deserves lots of credit for his role in the UM spectacle.  Calling people drugged out for appreciating it shows a lack of perspective IMO

I don't have any problem whatsoever with people who love Hindsight or people who think a show with no improv is just as good as 6/5/08. To each their own. Some of my closest tour buddies have opinions that deviate starkly from my own, and I think it's great. I also tend to be more positive about modern UM than some of the other "vets" on here, I've been saying It's Not Us is my favorite UM album unironically and I think their jams are just about as good as they've ever been (with hot streaks and lulls on cyclical basis same as ever)

The reason that 'topus is a douche is not because he enjoys extremely basic UM or because he doesn't have any criticisms, it's because he bashes the rest of us for being critical and discussing things that we don't like

Yeah I try to make a conscious effort not to call people names as I get older.  But when monkeys get to flinging shit at each other, the shit shall fly.  Same as it ever was.

Rawk has spent quite a bit of time belittling members here, so it's not all that surprising he gets belittled.

And really, if getting called a loser on a dbmb is the worst part of your day, you had a fucking great day in the grand scheme of human suffering.

I don't think rawktopus is a loser, but he could sure lighten up a little.  Insulting people's lives because they don't love the same things  as you isnt very constructive behavior. It's ok though bc we all have to melt down every now and then.  Better on a dbmb than at work or the dinner table.

The first time I saw UM was in 07 in a high school gym with maybe 1000 or so tickets.  A couple weekends ago I saw them crush 3 nights at red rocks and I absolutely loved it.  The sold upwards of a million dollars worth of tickets in a single weekend and melted over ten thousand  faces.  I'd argue its no doubt the best multi night rr run they have ever done.  Not sure where the accusations that I'm only here to hate come from.   I want umphreys to tour for many years to come and continue melting faces and bringing in younger generations.  So what if I don't like something? Its more than one person's opinion that makes the collective.

I have just as much if not more fun seeing "the boys" crush today as I did a decade ago.  It's harder to make shows as you get older so it makes it more special.  And when they throw down like this past run at red rocks, who really cares if one or two songs are less than my favorite?  Overall it was the best multi night run ive seen in years, and i keep repeating it over and over.

UM is fuckin sick and I love seeing them get paid.  Throw in a few solid jams and im on cloud 9.

Oh so posting on a message board but not seeing um is what makes you a loser? What about not seeing um and posting on a different message board or social media?  Does that make you a loser?  What about seeing UM and not posting?  Does dedicating your time and life to a tier three jamband make you a loser?  If you spend your time analyzing who is a loser on a DBMB, what does that make you?

Its pretty fucking hysterical to think anybody here has the right to call someone else a loser.  Buncha fuckin dorks

People love to willfully ignore the wealth of other information on this forum.

"THIS IS AN UMPHREYS FORUM! If you don't spend >5% of your gross income on UM ter then you don't deserve to post here."

There are thousands of pages of threads about the biscuits, hip hop, Phish, politics, video games, movies, TV shows, beer, hash, funny news, jokes, gifs, etc.

I suspect biscuits discussion is what keeps a lot of the lifers around.  We have some pretty dedicated folks over there.

Should I come in this one? Haha. We got the same cast of characters. For me personally I like being by the soundboard so I get the best sound and a full view of the lights. I've only been on the rail twice out of 106 shows. I always feel bad blocking some 5 foot tall girl's view so I stand about 15 rows back and look over the crowd.

SCENE: OUTSIDE BOWLING ALLEY 4 HOURS BEFORE IT OPENS

WaC: Man I really hope that this line is shorter than the Aragon line, I really want to catch the league before us and see how they stack up against our league!

Rawk: Are you kidding me? Just because they play in the "better" league doesn't mean that they're better than us. We're the standardtown league! We're the best available! Only the hard hitters and no rare gems in this league!

WaC: What the hell are you talking about? People have been doing this shit for decades, what makes you think you're better than them? Stay the fuck home if you want to be that elitist. Plus, the other league has better lights than us

Rawk: Dude fuck you you drugged out loser. Pathetic.

What about posting about people participating in that behavior?  And responding to people posting about other people participating in that behavior?

The rabbit hole is deep.  There will be plenty of time in line at the aragon to discuss these concepts in depth.

Weren't those DBS packages a joke that eventually morphed into the first BG show when it was decided that "a private show for you and your friends" could be "a private show for you and 199 other people that you can find to crowdfund a show"? Those packages were so ridiculous that they couldn't have possibly been serious

I find it amusing that Tango Mike got a name and it gets played only once every 50 shows. Was the pricing structure like this?

$1K: JO
$2K: Rarity
$3K: Rotation
$5K: Jam Vehicle
$10K: Overplayed Emo Bayliss song

I noticed that on the website. Does that mean 3 sets? Or just two longer sets?

not sure.  UM usually advertises if a show is going to be 3 sets but who knows.  hoping for 2 longer sets and I'm sure there will be various guests throughout the night.
Joel confirmed it's a 2 set show. If it's a normal 2 set show with no opener, does the promoter put UM 8:30pm-1am to build hype? Just so stupid.

Chicago has a few all you can drink mimosa/bloody brunches and they are maybe like $20 ... $25 tops. Not sure how much food people think they would pound to make this even remotely worth it, not to mention having so many drinks by 1pm (on the day you are going to a show) that it would seem like a bargain at $80?

Don't get me wrong, a tiedye set up (BYO shirt) is BALLER AS FUCK ... but still, a little bit of a stretch on the value prop here guys.

Does anyone else get the feeling that some of these shows might be undersold? The 4 show ticket for the concord for $47 makes me think so. And then combine that with some people leaving early/arriving late to try to hit multiple shows.

Yeah maybe if they didn't take the overlapping sets festival approach, people would be more willing to go to more than one.

I think this was a poor execution of a good idea. But we'll see. Still pumped for the Aragon. Should have a solid crew coming in and from Chicago, and bringing my sister to her first show.

The Lettuce show last night made me dislike the Concord as a venue way less, probably due to the fact that it was only 2/3 full. I will admit that they had that sound dialed the fuck in last night. That being said I'd give the show a 6.5/10 show. The horns are cool but Lettuce is kinda a one trick pony.

Nigel Hall is the make or break factor. If they've got Nigel it's a good time, not too much steam without him though.

The sound is soooo terrible if youíre not up front itís kinda not worth going imo. There were points at the um late night I couldnít even tell what song it was because the sound was so bad.
