***The Bort's Code of Modding and Forum Guidelines***
« on: November 21, 2012, 01:35:56 PM »

This forum is to discuss Umphrey's McGee and their music.  Please use the Setlists Category for posting UM setlists ONLY.  Please use the Get in the Van forum to post "roll calls" for particular shows, share rides, arrange pre-games, review hotels, buy/sell extra tickets etc.  If you are hawking NON-licensed UM related merchandise or need to sell something other than tickets, please post these in the Marketplace.  Other, non UM-related bands should be discussed in the "Other Artists" forum.  The Disco Biscuits have their own sub-forum for those that enjoy the "The Untz Report".  Chit-Chat is for non-music related general topics and miscellaneous bullshit.  Your help in posting in the appropriate forum is appreciated.

Another helpful feature to this site is the "search" feature.  Unless it just came hot off the wire, there is often a chance that someone else may have already started a thread.  By searching first, it helps to keep that topic all on one thread.

Thanks in advance for your help!

***********************************************

Since there seems to be a lot of confusion about why things get modded, we got together and came up with our "Code of Modding" if you will.  Basically, if something is modded, it will be because of one of the reasons listed below.

Reason 1: Neatness
Example 1: You start a thread discussing a particular show in Umphrey's Discussion. A mod merges that thread with the Setlist Discussion thread about that show. Why? Not because we think your discussion is frivolous, but rather your Umphrey's Discussion thread will likely die out in a couple of days and the educated discussion about the show will be lost forever. But if we move it to the Setlist Discussion, it will remain very easy to find, and neatly arranged so that the next time someone wants to discuss the show, they can build off of your discussion.
Example 2: You start a thread asking for extra tickets to a show in Umphrey's Discussion. A mod moves that thread to the GITV Section. Why? Because that's where those things go. If I had an extra ticket to a show, I'd look in the Get In the Van Section for a potential buyer.
* Please note that spamming falls under this category.

Reason 2: Out of Respect for the Band
Example 1: You start a thread about how hot a band member's wife is. That thread starts to yield some borderline stalker material. A mod deletes the thread. Why?  Because the band's personal business is their own, and is not to be discussed here.
Example 2: You start a thread selling drugs at the NYE show. A mod deletes the thread. Why? Because even though UM doesn't pay for or endorse the bort, the two are joined at the hip through Google and public perception. Umphrey's give us sweet sweet music, and we're not going to give them a terrible reputation in return. And it's illegal.
* Please note that malicious trolling falls under this category.
* Please note that illegal sharing of copyrighted material falls under this category.

Reason 3: Out of Respect for Borters
Example 1: John says he'll sell you a ticket to a show. Something comes up and John doesn't follow through. You start a thread with John's personal information. A mod deletes it. Why? Because we respect ALL borters enough to keep their personal info off the internets.
Example 2: You post a picture of a naked one-legged tranny in the Ass thread. A mod deletes it. Why?  Because the average borter does not expect to see that there, and only "tasteful nudity" is permitted on the bort.
* Please note that anything Not Safe for Work should be tagged as such.
* Please note we are not defining "tasteful nudity."  That judgment is left up to the moderators.

These reasons are mere guidelines, and the decision of whether or not something should be modded ultimately falls on the moderators.  We are real people with real jobs, so we probably won't catch everything.  If you'd like to bring something to our attention, please report the post to a moderator.  Additionally, the examples above are simply that: examples.  They are not the only hard and fast rules on the bort.

I'm leaving this thread unlocked in case anyone has questions.  These reasons, however, are not up for debate.  The bort is and will continue to be a place that we keep relatively neat, and where respect for the band and other borters are upheld.

You stay classy, Bortland.

Thank you, someone should definitely be keeping this place in order.  Last thing the bort should be doing is creating a negative image for the community we love. Appreciated.

What if it is a two leg tranny? Does a penis fall under the "tasteful nudity" clause? The reason I ask is because this is the Internet and is serious business
