And it also bothers me when someone says X > Y > X is an X Sandwich. No, it isn't. If anything, it is a Y Sandwich.

i disagree with that. that's both an x and a y sandwich.

however, song > stew > song is most definitely not a sandwich.

Maybe I should qualify my statement to extend outside of music. When you eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, it is defined by the Y (what's inside). Not the X (the bread). I should have made myself clearer. (Like, when someone is between someone else, and they go "Look, a XX sandwich!" Sorry. Pet peeve alert.  :)

haha i understood your logic behind the initial statement, but i think things are a bit different in music land. in music land a sandwich is defined by both the bread and the meat (metaphorically speaking), and more often than not it's defined by the "bread".

I probably should have used "segment" rather than "sandwich". But if we're going to pick nits here, you usually don't define a musical sandwich by the contents, you define it by the "bread". For example I would call a set that starts with, say, Jajunk and ends with Jajunk a "Jajunk Sandwich". I guess a better word for that is "bookend". Maybe the word sandwich should be left in the realm of edible food?

Excellent show last nite.  Highlights were ITK jam, LMS and the huge dance party jam in Bright Lights.  Marion's 100th was raged proper!  Somehow convinced a dude on the rail to give me his shirt right off his back, he also got Myers to sign it for me.  Shenanigans all around.  Headed to Charlotte right meow!   :horns:

deeper, booth love, domino theory, bright lights.last man swerving,andy's......The worst setlist ever!!!
I've never understood the hate for BLBC. The song has consistently delivered for years.

Jams delivered have nothing to do with the quality of the composition. Song itself has very little substance, is just there for a dancy fun little shindig.

But for marcello, not liking Last Man Swerving and Andy's Last Beer? I feel ya on the rest of the songs, but those last two make it look like sarcasm.
Exactly, it's a fun song. I'm pretty sure it's about a dude trying to get laid and it always spawns tasty improv.  Do you dislike 40's for the same reason?

I'd have to agree that setlist-wise this show does very little for me.  Out of all the songs played the only ones I really like are Sociable, LMS, BLBC and Fussy.   That being said, I will withhold judgement on the show until I hear the jams in IC, Domino and Kitchen.  Still much happier with the setlists from the 3 previous shows I caught last weekend compared to last night.

Just listened and was pleasantly surprised.  The show really heated up beginning with IC.  Good jams to follow in Booth, DT, Kitchen, sociable, and BLBC.  Even a little twist on the intro to Peeps.

This show was a sleeper for sure, check it out if you like good non-standard UM shows. I saw everybody fluffing the shit out of Charlotte the next night but the jams in Lexington were much hotter. In the first set, IC, Booth and Domino Theory all delivered big. The Kitchen was just silly, Sociable Jimmy had a sweet non-standard jam, and Bright Lights delivered like it has been all year. Even Pig had a cool uplifting jam going on for a few minutes before the seamless segue into Deeper.
