Quote from: LarrySellers on February 09, 2012, 02:05:53 PM I love Susannah as a 30db song. It doesnt translate well to UM. That is all.

Cant agree more. A great song overall but does not fit into umphreys repertoire and from what I have heard does notsparkanyimprov.

after relistening to this show yesterday a few times, I really like the GA>stew>GA>susannah>GA sequence.  Appreciating that stretch more and more.  Susannah seems to fit in there nicely imo, short and sweet.

And I couldn't agree more with you.  I was there and I thought the way it was all put together and by the way it flowed was fantastic.  Acoustic would have made it way cooler too being that they could have done a lot more improv than what they did with this.  All in all I really enjoy Susannah and glad I caught it within one of the many awesome sandwiches that made up this show.  Mike, we are on the same page by the way with CW I &II, but make sure you check out this CW II jam....hot for sure.

I can't get enough if this bottom 1/2 I wish they would have busted this jam out during haloween it's terrifying, rockin and dancey all attbe same time.

I'm almost positive this Nemo is a repeat (at least one section), but I can't place it

One part sounded like " creep" to me... But my girlfriend promptly shut that down

^ yes please (if you can get one).  Does it look like a Lakland?  The Becker one broke.  The fretboard broke right where the neck attaches to the body

No wonder he only played at like one show.  How did it break?

I also him saying it was very neck heavy, and that he was so used to his Lakland that is was just a weird adjustment.

I just finished listening to the first set and it is actually very good from an improv standpoint.  The MV is a standard, strong jam.  The Nemo is blissfully uplifting and has a lot of great Joel piano work.  The GA might be my favorite jam of the set, pretty pre-composed sounding.  The CWII is also strong, parts of the jam sound like something you would hear in Pay the Snucka (between parts I and II).  They flub the ending of CWI kind of bad though.

show was decent imo, not mind-blowing or anything to me.

MV had a nice a jam, GA was very enjoyable (though it didnt excite me to have susannah dropped in the middle, was still cool)... I actually enjoyed the CWII jam more than anything, hard to describe but joel was throwing down this dancey/almost R&B feel which developed nicely I thought then dropped into a floyd/breathe->On the Run-esque ambient section which was beautiful - then it returned to original theme before finishing up the ending of CWII.

I actually think I slightly preferred the first set to the second set.  Bridgeless to open was really good, I was digging the jam and towards the end I dont know if I heard something or it was just wishful thinking, but for a brief time I thought it was going to be Bridgeless > Blue Echo, so I was inevitibly dissappointed when they dropped into Partyin.  When B1/2 started, I was expecting major treatment since it was middle second set.  In my opinion the jam/stew seemed like a misfire.  I liked the feel of the riff or the idea of what Jake was setting up, but almost sounded like no one could follow Jake (or vice versa) and seemed to wrap up quickly - dissappointing to not see it develop into something cohesive.  I would like to hear it again, but at the time seemed somewhat disfunctional to me.  MO > Bridgless was good and the BLBC encore was strong.  To me the inside of the Bridgeless, MO > Bridgeless sandwich wasnt incredibly memorable.

I seem to generally be in the minority with my views, so take this FWIW.  Not to mention, Im still in shock over the STL/NYE run so maybe I am not being fair.

I just wanted to add that I think this is a damn fine review and I appreciate the effort put into writing and sharing it.
