yea, but the last night slot has always been unofficially able to go until sunrise.  If they get that 2AM start time, it's game on.

This. Its kinda the unwritten rule that the last band to play a tent can rock out till whenever. it was nearly 7 AM last year when STS9 walked off the stage

A UM late night would blow my mind.  I watched them close it out on Friday night at Allgood last night, and you guys are saying that at the Roo a band can play til sunup, that's just to damn awesome if UM gets that slot.  I'd like to see Phish headline, then UM close the night out, that would be the greatest thing ever imo.

What time do the late nights typically start/end at AllGood?  Or I guess what I'm trying to say is, how late did UM play til last year at AllGood and how long was the set?!

They didn't start until 3 or a little later thanks to Furthur. The ended around 430 I believe. Now in 09 they started around 1 and played til at least 4

Set time was 2:15-4 and I CANNOT believe that I managed to note that in my phone.

So, I just checked the line-ups and it looks like while moe. was listed 20th in 2009, UM is listed as 28th for 2012.  From this we can probably deduce nothing, and I don't know why I'm even pointing this out, but, there you have it phanners.  Let us pray.

Bonnaroo is a fun festival.....but for the most part its full of pozers who don't know shit about music and sell-out bands.....much prefer summercamp/waka....i def feel like somewhere like scamp or waka the fans have to care more about the music since hardly any bands on those lineups are usually very popular in the mainstream music scene......you do not find out about bands like moe., umph, wsp, phish, cheese, etc. by listening to the radio or watching music videos like you can much of the roo artists (RHCP, mac miller, ludacris, skrillex, etc.) bunk that.....umphrey's will more than likely get a shitty daytime set while less talented acts get late night spots in the tents.......see you guys at sUMmercamp!

^Well said. Pretty accurate, too. The bottom line is, Jambands don't generate coin outside of concerts for these music execs, and thus are punished with limited exposure/shitty timeslots at the corporate-sponsered mega concerts.

^ Sorry homie.....thats just my opinion from the roo's that i have attended (08, 09), i just don't think that bonnaroo should be your destination if you are an umphrey's (Jam band) fan........the bands at bonnaroo just bring in a different crowd than some of your smaller festies....not saying it wouldn't be a good time, just stating my opinion....im from middle tennessee and would still rather travel to a jamband festival than drive an hour to attend MTV's festival

btw- B'roo is not an "MTV'' festival

I love scamp and other smaller fests.  But what makes B'roo the cream of the crop is it's diversity.  For me, it's seeing bands like TOOL and raging bluegrass during the day.  Not eveyone is strictly into "hippie music"

I guess I relate based primarily to the jealousy factor of his rant. Observing all the talent and effort of Jambands year in and out eternally makes me question what it is people see in some of these other bands, and why they wouldn't enjoy bands that can do it all. I would be a hypocrite if I said I never listened to any of the bands that also make it to big festivals, or if I ruled out other people's opinions of music. My opinion doesn't make a difference. Its just my feelings on the matter, is all.

Sure. If all you listen to is one genre of music, then No, Bonnaroo is not for you. But most of the people that appreciate "jam bands" also appreciate bluegrass, and indie, and maybe some electronic. And love seeing bands in a tent, or on a stage with 80,000 other people.

For me, Bonnaroo is for people who actually know and care about music, rather than "don't know shit."

^doesn't know how to have fun due to a need for h3ttier than thou hippeh street cred.

the argument that well known/popular music is inherently of lesser value than underground music is old and never had ANY basis in reality.

I would never go to Bonnaroo probably due to work/zero desire to sweat my ass off in the hot TN sun in June but the line-up is extremely diverse and looks absolutely killer this year.

Like I said, everything about Bonnaroo sucks ass, except the line-up and lack of restriction for late-night shows.

^ and the 'Superjam' is THE coolest thing that ANY festival will offer. Go ahead and argue all you want, but where else would you have Ben Harper and John Paul Jones (amongst many others) playing late night together? Sooooooo cool man.

Speaking of the Superjam, how awesome would it be to see Jake and Trey trade licks w/each other all night?

Its hot. Its huge. Its in Tennessee. Along w/it being in TN comes terrible drug laws as well. My roommate was picked up in 07 w/some booms (oz), and they ended up 'fining' him with a $10,000 fine, to which he had 9 months to pay in full or else he'd get a 'felony tax-evasion' charge. True story.

I went 05-07 and will probably never go back due to the heat and how unpredictable your camp spot can be. We showed up at midnight on wednesday in 07 and ended up with a 45 min walk to and from centeroo, which sucked, especially in 100 degree heat. What really pissed me off were the people who showed up afterwards and had a 5 min walk to and from centeroo. I missed out on many acts during the day because I didn't want to wear myself out by walking 45 min to catch an hour set.

I agree completely with the notion that A. where you'll be parked is unpredictable, because it's so fucking big, and B.  where you end up camping makes a huge difference in regards to your overall festival experience.

Probably my biggest complaint was that the community vibe of many smaller festivals was completely absent.  Just not there at all... I don't think I even met any of my neighbors, other than saying "hi".  No woods, no bodies of water to swim in, etc. etc.

I might be going VIP if a friend can pull through and bring me along.

Would be at UM in addition to
-Phish
-Radiohead
-Superjam
-The Word
-Mogwai
-The War on Drugs
-The Lonely Forest

Check them all out. Cross your fingers for me!

You know whats just as bad as pozers?  Hipsters who can't like anything popular.  Believe it or not, there are music bands and artists that get popular because I dunno... They're GOOD!
