Room to Breathe isn't horrible.  It just has nothing to make it stand out.  It's so average it hurts... but I feel that way about most of the new UM songs that debuted at summercamp besides puppet string.  Forks I just deteste.

I'm dead serious when I say this... RtB is the worst song ever. It seriously sucks. Sorry if u like it, it fucking sucks. Its horrible. Its a joke. Ugh.

don't understand the RtB hate, it's not a bad song from a compositional or lyrical stand point..... and it has a pretty badass ending

to each their own, but I like RtB.  Not my favorite song or anything and at this point shows no improv (but that section before the end has potential to be opened up).... It has a nice heavy feel to it, the peak at the end is great imo.

Length doesn't equal quality. Just bc it was 11 minutes doesn't make the song itself any different, fwiw I listened to the Cleveland version earlier today, tried to like it and didn't find much that was very impressive. But that's just one guys opinion on one song. I'm not a huge fan of DT either, but IMO that song has served as a better jam vehicle than mv. Miami just doesn't sound like um to me

i agree length doesnt mean quality.  However, I enjoyed the Cleveland MV - the one in Pittsburgh, imo, though is better.  If you havent listened, might be worth checking out- Pittsburgh 09-21-11 Miami Virtue/Archive link

but fwiw I have yet to hear a MV I didnt like.

I love how Steve hates R2B with a passion but enjoys "bro-ing out" to Gulf Stream.  I would take R2B every-other show if you told me I'd never hear Gulf Stream ever again.  Different strokes...

Great set 1. My first Crooked, though I'm a sporadic show attendee since 2000... Everything has some kind of improv /jam/extension so far. Divisions was finished. Jake has a hat unless I'm really drunk. Miami Virtue was 11+  minutes so cry away crybabies, it was great.

Sorry, my intention was not to equate length to quality - I was thinking more along the lines of "they had 11 minutes to DO something with this song". For me, having heard both Miami and Night Nurse live for the first time last night, I found more enjoyment out of them stretching Miami out than I did out of Nurse. Nurse was boring to me, but then, I also hate Blue Echo, so my opinion may not hold water ;)

I heard someone mention it sold out mid-afternoon but cannot confirm.  Hearsay rumors can often be fact  ;)

That's funny cause I feel the opposite. I like Forks but could go with out ever hearing RtB.

Exactly, different strokes.  I the same way about RtB, and this was my first.  The funky section with the Jake solo towards the end is my favorite part.

First set was very good.  Peaking rock jam out of Miami. In the middle of a build up Jakes guitar went out and so Brenden took over nicely and lead to the peak while Jake switched guitars (to the strat I think) and then he took it back over nicely.  The Crooked One jam started out very spacey/ambient.  Jake was doing some major tapping.  It then transition into rock and had a decent peak/platau.  No jam in Wellwishers.  I was happy for 1348 as I was hoping for a jam like Detroit or SC.  The jam was very good but no near those versions.  I don't recall how it went. I was in line for a tall IPA (they actually had Shorts Huma Lumpa Licious upstairs instead of Two Hearted but its great too) for all of Morning Song and most of Hey 19 so I can't say much for how those were (Morning Song standard of course).  Got the Divisions but given its placement at the end of the set with limiting time it had no jam.  A good drum solo though. I will take a standalone Divisions anytime though.

With the start of the second set I thought it was going to be a crazy one.  The Reso jam was good and lyrics were a welcome surprise.  Was super stoked about Eminence Front.  I really enjoy the rest of the second set, especially the Mantis Ghetts and the encore was good even though I was anticipating the return to 1348.  But yeah, not much improv in second set.

Overall I really liked this show. Amazing view from the balcony, sold out show, great IPA's.  The crowd went nuts during some of the peaks in the first set.

You summed it up very well.  Jake broke a string during the MV jam.

Of course by me agreeing with this post, I'll end up having to sit thru a Gulf Stream tonight in MKE.   :-\

Definitely enjoyed the show last night. I'd been wanting to hear MV and the improv that ensues. It wasn't my favorite MV jam as I thought it took a while to get going. I'm sure part of that was because Jakes string broke. Crooked one was an unexpected treat and for me that was the jam of the night. Not a fan of night nurse, would have much rather heard either some improve or day nurse in that Phil's Farm. Matis Ghetts came out of nowhere, wasn't even on my radar for this show. Definitely brought me back into the show after one too many two hearteds. Sure, there wasn't a ton of improve, but we got 2 awesome covers and an overall very solid show. Whatever, I love this band.

Can't wait for to night. also, pretty sure Jake was wearing a hat.

Looks like a pretty fun show to me.  I have heard some mixed reviews, but as far as song selection goes, it is right up my ally.  Plus I have been chasing Hey 19 since I first started listening to the band, so that alone would have made my night.

fuck traffic!  got in right as the first section of crooked one was ending.  Even with missing a song and half, I liked the first set better.  Jams in Crooked One (nice to see a finished Crooked One too!) and 1348 were easily the highlight, with MO -> 1348 and Reso being the close second.

While the improv was noticeably missing in the second set, I thought the song selection was great, and the flow was excellent.

Reso > Eminence > Prowler > Phils > Night Nurse > Phils?  Yes please.  I don't know how you could not like that?

Exactly.  That makes my mouth water.  I'm usually a pretty big improv snob, but either way, that segment looks tasty!!

The only thing different was the encore. WMM and Bath were written, 1348 was supposed to close the first set.

38 shows and finally got my crooked and phils! Top 2 on my list! Also heard ghetts and hey 19 for the first time, which was a nice little treat.   Lack of improv was made up for by song selection.  Had a blast!
