Different strokes for sure man. Funny you brought up the 08 show, because I was telling my gf after the show how we haven't had an above average show in W Michigan ever since that Intersection show. All 3 State Theatre shows since have been standard, the GRap shows have been standard (although the Billie Jean does rip), even the east side shows haven't been that good. I'd say my fav show in this state since 08 would be the Detriot show, and probably only because that 1348 rips faces apart. But aside from that, it was average at best. The Mitten gets a TON of love (for that I'm ever so grateful) but if there's a place that's overrated to see UM, its definitely here in Michigan. The tapes speak for themselves.
Given that I can't tour much with the band, I guess I'll just have to settle for average (or sub-par) shows here in MI.
FWIW, I still disagree with the "D+" rating, given the amount of "average" shows I have seen here in MI. I'd probably give this show a rating somewhere in the "B" range (with "C" being average) but then again, "different strokes". Thanks for the respectful discourse.
Maybe it's because the song selection was right up my alley...or maybe you're just a little ridiculous. But a "D+" is absolutely preposterous for this show IMO. A solid "B" is what this show deserves, no more, no less.
Hmmmm... I understand a D+ being a lil severe, but a B seems a little severe in the complete opposite direction. But to each their own!
i don't think this show is as bad as some are making it out to be. sure, the severe lack of jamming in the second set is definitely not my style, but at least the song selection outside of room to breathe and go to hell is pretty choice (but i have to admit those songs made the end of the second set VERY underwhelming for me). i'll probably never listen to the set again, but i had fun. the virtue, crooked one, 1348, and reso LS are nice highlights, plus i got my first hey 19 so i was really pumped about that. i give this show a solid C. i liked it better than the south bend show...that's for sure.
Really? Kind of similar shows, in that neither really had much on the improv department. I definitely enjoyed SBC way more than this. I'd give SBC a C (an A+ on the fun factor!) and stand by the D+ for kzoo. More so though because Morning Song, RtB, Wellwishers, and GtH aren't really my thing, and the improv that was there wasn't anything to write home about. Whereas SBC didn't really have a song that I don't like, aside from Forks. I'd much rather hear the standard versions of songs played in SBC than Kzoo. Plus, Tinkle's from SBC pwns anything from kzoo, imo. I guess when it comes to shows like this, it's all about song selection. And if the song selection is up your alley, and they play them well, you'll walk away somewhat satisfied.
Again, I had a blast for sure. I don't mean to be Debbie Downer. Night Nurse and Virtue were firsts for me, so that was cool (although I only caught the second half of MV). Ghetts is always sweet. Crooked One and Divisions were cool to hear as well. We raged the piss outta that balcony, Jake side, all dressed in our track suits and cheesey workout outfits. Hahhaha, we had a blast no doubt, and actually got to see the show unlike the last indoor mitten show! I look forward to seeing some of yall in Chicago, it'll be a good end to a pretty solid year of UM for me!
