Tabbing Project
« on: September 28, 2010, 04:18:49 PM »

Hey guys,
For a long time I have been learning as many umph songs as I can get tabs for, but I have noticed that sadly many songs are incomplete or have errors in the tabs (im talking about on the tab website), but I think that as a group we can come together and make some awesome, correct tabs. Right now Im just looking to see if people are interested in helping me. What I'll do is take requests for updates or new songs, and make a bort thread about the song, and as a community we can come together and figure it all out in awesome detail, and then I will assemble the tabs and submit to the website. So if you'd like to help just reply to this thread and if we at least can get a little team together I will go ahead and post a thread to figure out where to start.

work on Kat's tune if you get a chance.  Also does anyone know if the intro is played by just jake or by both jake and brendan?  I haven't seen this one live yet and i can't tell just by recordings.  I'm also down to do some tabbing if I can find the time.

If it's just one, I think it's Jake. This is just off the top of my head though.

sounds fun.  I've done some transcribing before and I'd be interested in helping out.

I've already made some modifications in my head on Prowler.  I just need to transcribe it.

I obviously am in  ;D

Looking at the site, these tabs seem to be the worst/most incomplete/not there

40's
CWII
Dump City
Great American
IVOY
Keefer
Water
Tribute
Muff II

I think that is good place to start...if everyone takes one

Looks like a great beginning to a valuable thread. I'm sure the OP is already familiar with umphreystabs.com, where a lot of tabs can be found, but this could be a great project as well.

I'd be willing to help in any way I can, but I'm no where near as educated in the musical language to be able to listen to songs and tab them out. I've got 3 short years of experience under my belt and UM songs all seem quite too complex for me still.

Any super easy ones? I've been working on some 30db stuff because it's all 3 or 4-chord sing-alongs...

Yea this is looking like it will work. I am familiar with umphreystabs, in fact I believe the guy who runs it posts here. All of our work will be given both to him to post on the website. Now to get more down to business... what song should we start with? Alot of songs need to be corrected and still a few have yet to be tabbed out, so what do you guys wanna do? Also we should think of either a logical order to correct and add songs, or perhaps do it on a request type basis. What do you guys think?

tis me.  I check here frequently (probably a little too frequently) so if you just want to have it running in here, I can take them as they are posted and update the site.

Glad to see someone else wanting to help! thanks!

I was thinking that we could work as a group on each tab. If we made a thread for each song and we can work together to get it perfect, and everyone can contribute as much as they can figure out... is there any way we can make a sub topic to put a bunch of smaller threads about specific songs? But also that list looks pretty good. I'm gonna start lookin closer at some of those songs and see what i can squeeze out.

CWll Is very very simple.  Really just that one riff.

Also, I just retabbed Conduit and it should be up there soon.

A couple edits on that Conduit tab- Feel free to tell me I'm wrong though.

Quick Intro Riff:
e-----------------------
B-----------------------
G----16----------------
D-14------16----------
A-------14------16----
E-------------14----0--

A tiny detail, but jake seems to do it every time-

 Jake                                     |
e----------------------------------------------12-|
B------------------------------9h10p9-----------|
G--9/11----11/13----13/14----------11--9~~--|
D--x/x------x/x------x/x------------------------|
A--7/9------9/11----11/12----------------------|
E-------------------------------------------------|

G-----------------------------------------------
D--4-4--4---2--4-4----------------------------3-
A--4-4--4---2--4-4--------------4--0----------2-
E--2-2--2---0--2-2------------------------------

^Pretty sure that B is always a 5th not a tritone. So it would be

e--------------------------------------------------
B--------------------------------------------------
G--------------------------------------------------
D--4-4--4---2--4-4----------------------------4-
A--4-4--4---2--4-4--------------4--0----------2-
E--2-2--2---0--2-2-------------------------------

They're only known from word of mouth
e--5-
B--4-
G--5-
D--7-
A--5-
E-----
^ that chord doesn't sound right, can't figure out what it should be

-Yeah, the intro is right.  I was trying to figure it out cause i know that they play it up there, but I just went with what he already had.
-That fill is right, I just didn't feel like tabbing it out haha, but yeah, he does it all the time.
-I'm almost positive that that is a tri-tone, definitely is in the Cape Cod show as well as at Scamp and thats what I was basing it off of.
-That chord should be a F#-7, so
e-2--
B-2--
G-2--
D-2--
A----
E----
I'm pretty sure thats what I had it as, looks like it got changed after I sent it in.
-And yeah, you're right on that last one, my bad

should we have a folder for this project? and have separate threads for each song?  It could get confusing

yeah I cant figure out that chord either, neither ways sounds right to me

if you watch this video, you can see Jake play it higher up on the neck.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VQ9L9qTf6c

3:05 - 3:08

and right after that time, you can see Jake clearly does a slide on the G string rather than a bend, minor I know, but still.

e-------------------------------------------------
B---5b(7)b5---4b(5)b4-----------------------------
G----------------------6b(7)b6--4b(5)b4--2b(3)b2~-
D-------------------------------------------------

There was somebody who emailed Joel about it and got a response and posted it on the bort.  I know I printed it out, but i'm not sure if i still have it
