I agree with Chad. This place needs to pick up some steam first.

The old bort ran SMF 2 I'm pretty sure, but if people don't want to change to it now that is fine.  I do know that down the road it'll take longer to update to the new version since it'll have to convert the database/posts/settings to the new version.  I only suggested it now because the board is small and wouldn't take very long to update and should be relatively painless.

I like the idea of upgrading, but the theme is great. I'm really used to/preferential to this lay out.

@thenaes

does any move to 2.0 change the base theme to the "Curve" theme that I posted above? I don't want to alienate ppl who are preferential to this current theme, as I also like it. At one point The Bort did get to SMF 2.0 Pub release. I've not been able to find much info on whether or not we can stay with the current default theme, or if the "Curve" theme is required. It sounds like using themes from 1.1.11 will need to be hacked in....

I honestly don't know.  I've never personally done it.  If too many people like this theme then just stick with the current version for now.  I personally like the new theme better.

The only thing I would change about the current format is adding a quick reply form at the bottom of every thread.

You can actually set that in your settings:

Profile > Look and Layout Preferences > Use quick reply on topic display > Show on by default

Also I think it should be noted that the old bort was using a variation of the new theme in SMF 2.0, so I'm sure it won't feel too out of place.

There should probably be more posts per page.  What was it before?  20-30 or something?

I still say if you're planning on eventually upgrading, it is probably worth it to do it soon.  The bigger the board is the longer it'll take.

Looking more and more like we'll do the upgrade. I'd probably roll it out over the weekend, late Sunday night. I could also roll it out as www.thebort.org and do some testing....

Thanks for the input!

If its going to take a long time lets do it sooner than later.

We can all get used to the new setup!

Well it won't take a long time, but less can go wrong if the board is smaller (smaller database).

Anything that helps us get more than 20 threads on a board page and a laughable 15 posts per thread page (even PT has this beat) would be way tits.

Old users can adapt to change, while a new look and/or theme might attract new members.
