Bort Musician's Music
« on: June 26, 2011, 10:19:01 AM »

We have a thread for videos, so I thought maybe a thread for our songs would be a good idea.

I just started using a cakewalk program(Guitar Tracks 4) and trying to record some ideas I've had for a while.  I'm still a novice by all means when it comes to recording and mixing.  Anything I put up is not a finished product I'd really like to hear some criticism, and I know I'll get some honesty here.

Did you play all of the instruments?  The drums on Forget 'Bout It sound pretty tight.  I like the way the builds up and adds more harmonies, but it needs to get there quicker and get to the next musical idea.  I know you're looking to add a bridge, but it really needs it.

I played everything but the drums actually.  I had to use a loop for the drums.  I haven't gotten the hang of making my own beats yet, and lack any drums other than bongos.  I really like the hook in the song but a bridge would give it a break in the monotany of the same groove for 4 minutes.  I have a section in mind but recording that needs a drum change that I can't really match with the loops.

Thats probably the most complete out of all the songs we have. Always kinda reminded me of Wilco.
I'm pretty sure I'm playing all of the guitars and maybe some organ somewhere.
Because its still a rough mix I'd prefer if ya'll didn't share it around too much.
But that being said, enjoy it!

Opsopcopolis I like it, so does my wife, and my son who is dancing around to it.  Sounds very well put together.  I can hear the Wilco influence.

Thanks! I'm glad you all enjoy it.  We've pretty much got an album's worth of stuff mostly recorded most of it along that vein.  I'll put up another track or two tomorrow or Saturday

put up two more just now that can be found here:
http://soundcloud.com/opsopcopolis/sets/some-more-jeb

First one was kind of a joke (as you could probably tell from listening to the lyrics) and was just a fun way to get the double chugging guitars in the back.
Second one fits in well with the track "Get on Gettin' By" that I posted earlier.  Very folk classic rock sounding to my ears.
Both still have some finishing to be done (i.e. the ending of the first one and redoing the vocals and acoustic guitar on the second one) but they're relatively close

Check out my band, Capital Zen: Funk, prog, etc. - we're all over the board!

Also, some LMA-style CZ love found here: [url]http://www.archive.org/details/CapitalZen]http://www.capitalzen.net[/net] Funk, prog, etc. - we're all over the board!

I've also got a little pile of music collecting over here:
http://tindeck.com/users/sukotto42
Nothing really original there, so to speak - except a NES-style dubstep-ish track. There are covers/medleys of Nintendo songs sounding like a band(performed all instruments myself, except the drums - programmed note for note, no loops), a bunch of McNES stuff and such.

So... I've been learning ableton.  All of this is programmed, as I don't have a way to record drums, and I'm not very good at guitar.  But these are the ideas I have, and I'm going to be brave and actually share them with some people.

These are just ideas of mine, but I have put a lot of time into these.  The earlier ones are from when I just started using the program, so they are quite rough, but I'm learning more as I go.

Figured maybe if I share, I'll get some useful advice to keep going.

I'm having a good time listening through those Aiden.  Some damn good stuff.  We should jam sometime.  I'm getting an electric drumset from a friend late next week and I've got all my guitar stuff here at school.

I'm playing here in Chicago very regularly with The J.J. & Dre Trio.  We've got some live recordings from the Elbo Room residency up on our Facebook page (I'm at work or I'd put a link for you but it's not that tough to seach Facebook).............

Let me know what you think.....always looking for feedback in which to improve.  I'm the lead guitarist and we all sing.

P.S.......we're about 75% done with our debut studio album....probably going to be doing a release party in early January if you're local.  (most likely at Martyr's)  We're also looking for a solid rhythm section if ya'll know anybody that'd be interested PM and send em our way.  Thanks.

Peace.
