finally got around to downloading this show and after listening to the second set multiple times I have to say it's an above-average set of music but don't really get all the hype.  Blue Echo is one of my favorite Umph songs too, fwiw.  The whole set definitely has a certain "vibe" to it but nothing musically that really blows my mind.

but that's just like my opinion, man.
agreed

agreed as well.

The reason I love this second set so much is for the diversity of musical styles and song selection.  Sure, it's not a 4-song set with a bunch of 15-20 min jams, however, it is beautifully constructed and offers a great mixture of original compositions, classic covers, improv, a composed stew, teases, jams and dance parties, not to mention a great standalone set opener/closer complete with a meaty sandwich in the middle - and it all flows so damn well, imo.

I love an improv-heavy set as much or more than anyone on here, but the nice thing about UM is that it doesn't need to be all improv all the time for me to be satisfied.  They have, arguably, the most diverse catalog of tunes of any band touring and every once in a while they'll throw together a set consisting of all the wonderfully unique things UM has to offer - this is once of those instances.

I cant really contribute much more in terms of analysis, seeing as how this is one of the more thoroughly discussed shows of this year, and i'd probably just end up rehashing my old points or someone elses.

but what I can say is that this is one of the few shows from this year that I find myself going back and relistening to. Not that this has been a bad year for UM by any means (it hasnt) but I just dont listen to them as much as I used to. But this show keeps me coming back. This is the type of UM i friggin love so much. Lots of unique improv, a really really diverse set that actually flows really well. I just really dig the focused, exploratory, aggressive, spacey, funky feel of this show. especially the 2nd set.

If we get something like this at camp Ill be crying tears of joy

One jam from 2011 that I still keep coming back to.  Such an intense but patient build.

The entire second set of this show is money. I really like the Linear jam as well; it's aged like a fine wine. Not a bad first set either, come to think of it.

Yeah for real.  It's moments like these that make me feel so damn lucky that I have this band to listen to.  This jam is musical perfection imo.
